New Mexico blacksmith and sculptor Tom Joyce has been working in metal for over 40 years, since the tender age of 13. The recipient of many prestigious awards, including the MacArthur Foundation Fellowship in 2003, Joyce uses traditional blacksmithing techniques as well as less conventional methods. His interest in the history of iron and steel along with human culture is a theme in his work, and he often incorporates collected steel objects related to the subject of his projects. What draws us to Joyce's work is the simplicity of form, beautiful connections, and use of reclaimed material, all lending themselves to work that fits harmoniously into its environment.
