Digging in the dirt

We love working in our yard and garden almost as much as working in the studios. We call it "garden therapy." We're lucky here in Virginia to have a long growing season, and we try to grow a little something most of the year. We're big experimenters in the garden, planting local and heirloom seeds, saving seeds, trying out new vegetables and growing tricks. Last year we grew a butternut squash plant from our compost bin that produced enough to keep us in squash all winter, and it's looking close this year!

Our May garden: peas, broccoli, sweet potatoes, lettuce, and collards.

June sightings: coneflowers, pole beans, day lilies, and green tomatoes.

So much going on in July: blackberries, cucumbers, pollinators, and gladiolas.

August so far: cucumbers, broccoli, black-eyed Susans, and lettuce that's about to bolt.
