Johannah and the kids at Redd Elementary are wrapping up 12 weeks of mosaic-making. This weekend is the big event! The Really BIG Show is Art 180's annual carnival-style family event. It spotlights the student work coming out of 12 community programs this spring. These kids have worked so hard and had so much fun. There's a wide variety of projects. From spoken word to cloth books, and of course, mosaics!
As they near the end of their projects, the mosaic students continue to experiement. One student stacked tiles to create a three-dimensional effect. Another created a multi-media piece using glass tile on paper. It's so exciting to see this process!
We're spending the last few days grouting and writing up artists' statements. Some students love grouting while others dislike the sticky mess. But everyone was pretty amazed to see the dramatic change grout creates. There were many "ah ha" moments!
Come on out this Saturday, May 16 to Abner Clay Park at Brook Rd. & W. Clay St., from 1 to 4 to see the student work in person. Plus youth activities, food trucks, live performances, Bizarre Market, and more! Sure to be a fun afternoon for the family.
