Kyle and Johannah bring the ancient arts of blacksmithing and mosaics to a contemporary audience. Our work shows the continuing relevance of handskills in the 21st century. Using handtools and early industrial equipment, we create modern designs with the timeless feel of handmade work.
We use reclaimed, local, durable, and non-toxic materials to create environmentally sustainable work. We place a strong emphasis on community outreach and collaboration, working with local artist friends and community arts groups including RVA Makers, Art 180, RVA MakerFest, and Richmond Craft Mafia.
Kyle Lucia and Johannah Willsey
Kyle learned blacksmithing through a traditional English apprenticeship. He later earned a BFA in furniture design from Virginia Commonwealth University. Johannah is a self-taught mosaic artist. She has a BA in art history from the College of William & Mary. Though we happily work independently, our favorite projects bring it all together: metal, mosaic, & wood.
Together, we are raising (and homeschooling!) our two young children, one young pup, and one old cat in beautiful, historic Richmond, VA. When we aren't in the studios, you can usually find us exploring the James River or digging in our backyard garden.
