Monogrammed Fireplace Tool Set

This set of monogrammed hand-forged fireplace tools was a recent commission. We collaborated with a local artisan to create the handmade, traditional Appalachian-style broom.

You can order a similar monogram set of fire poker and tongs from our all metal Etsy shop, Lucia Metal Studios.

Our trophy collection

They're not trophies we've won. These are trophies we've made. Handmade trophies are a great change of pace from the standard metal cup or wooden plaque. And we have to say, from the maker perspective, they're a unique and fun design challenge.

For the Greater Richmond Chamber of Commerce 2013 Impact Awards. The shape of this forged steel trophy comes from the logo of i.e.*, the GRCC's innovation initiative.

For the inaugural Richmond Creativity Awards in 2014. This mixed media mosaic and forged steel trophy mimics the event logo and the idea of creativity bursting forth.

For the GRCC's 2014 Impact Awards. Like the 2013 version, this one is inspired by the i.e.* initiative logo, but we've added color this time around.

Forging a Window Grille

We were commissioned to create a forged window grill for the front door of a house in the Fan, a historic district here in our home base of Richmond, VA. This piece incorporated a lot of traditional forging techniques.

The framing had traditional mortis and tenon joints. The tenon was forged on the end of the bar using a top-and-bottom die on the anvil. Next Kyle used a monkey tool to clean up the shoulder of the tenon. This allows for a clean joint when the pieces are put together.

Here Kyle and his assistant are forging the scrolls for the grill, first on the power hammer and then over the horn of the anvil.
