This client approached us about using doorknobs in place of our usual hand-forged hooks. She provided the doorknobs, as well as fabric, paint, and wallpaper samples from the two rooms where her coat racks would hang. We made the frames a bit wider to accommodate the knobs. The wider profile really shows off the gorgeous reclaimed walnut!

Sometimes clients just have a particular color in mind, but usually they have some other ideas as well. For the coat rack on the left, the client requested a plus symbol, handmade by Kyle, to be incorporated into the mosaic. For the piece on the right, that client wanted a re-creation of an earlier, smaller coat rack in a larger size.

The special request for this six-hook mosaic coat rack was to give the piece a masculine feel for a single man.

Local Love: Join or Die Knives

Time for another collaboration! We recently worked with our friends at Join or Die Knives to creat a very cool, one-of-a-kind knife. Kyle forged the steel knife blank, Brent Stubblefield finished the knife and created a gorgeous hilt, and Blue Stubblefield crafted a beautiful leather sheath personalized with the Phoenix Handcraft logo.

Fall projects

This fall has flown by in a whirl! In addition to our work making and selling metal and mosaic goods, we've been working on bringing RVA Makers, a grassroots networking group we founded three years ago, to the next level. Over the summer we created a board and now we're raising funds to cover the costs of becoming an official non-profit. Whew! Take a peek at the campaign over on Indiegogo.

Meanwhile, here's what we've been up to in the metal, mosaic, and wood department!

This is the third annual trophy we've created for the ie* Innovation Award. We like to change it up a little each year and try something new.

Here's some of our work in the Umanoff Design booth at a super fun high end home décor shop. The mixture of furniture and art at this place is so fun to explore!

Candle cups and the small gradient mosaics are a few of our treasures we dropped off at Art 180 for their second annual Atlas Holiday Market, opening Friday December 4.
