A few odds and ends

Time for a few of the smaller projects Kyle worked on over the winter!

Sometimes the cobblers children do have shoes. Kyle made these custom-fit awnings for the front and rear entrances to our studio building. The frames and brackets are forged steel and an aluminum top is riveted to the frame.

Kyle fabricated this custom sign bracket for the Yoga Dojo, one our neighboring businesses in Scott's Addition.

These boss beauties are hand-forged refrigerator door pulls. How'd you like a fridge like that??

Two sets of exterior hand railings

We created and installed two sets of matching custom hand railings for this home in a simple curved design.

We used a traditional half-oval cap rail for this piece, so named for the shape of the material in profile. In the first photo Kyle is creating the terminal curve at bottom of the steps. In the second photo, he's checking the angle of the curve as it spirals downward. The last photo shows the heat scale or oxidized steel that forms on the surface of the steel as it's heated and forged. This scale is cleaned off before a finish is applied to the steel.

And here are the two sets of completed railing installed! A nice simple but elegant design.

Custom Fireplace Tools

It's getting to be that time of year! What time is that you ask? Bonfire time!! It happens a little earlier down south, a little later up north. And then it reverses in the fall. Add that to our list of "odd facts we notice through online sales."

This fall we added to our custom fireplace tool offerings, expanding from our original monogram bonfire poker. You can now find both indoor and outdoor pokers as well as tongs in our all-metal Etsy shop, Lucia Metal Studios. Just want one of the tools? No problem! You'll find each tool listed individually as well as in a set.

Indoor fireplace poker and log tongs

The outdoor poker is 40" long and the tongs are 36" long. This set is designed to be used comfortably with an outdoor fire, usually a little bigger and hotter than an indoor fire.

Both pieces of the indoor set are 27" long. Modern indoor fireplaces tend to be fairly small and shallow. A smaller tool set fits the bill in this case.
